On Our Farm

Our work is guided by the principles of regenerative agriculture.
Through our work on the farm, we aim to promote restorative processes in nature and strengthen the entire farm ecosystem by improving the soil structure. The integration of different types of plants and farm animals plays a key role in this process, with the help of which we aim to imitate natural cycles.
Our farm is organic certified.
This means respecting the regulations on organic farming in EU, which are designed according to principles that promote environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and, in practice, mean a ban on the use of genetically modified organisms, a ban on the use of ionizing radiation, a ban on the use of artificial fertilizers and pesticides, a ban on the use of hormones and a restriction on the use of antibiotics to only cases where this is necessary for the health of the animals.

Vegetable garden
Vegetables grown with respect for the soil, people and natural processes.
We are currently establishing a new No-dig market garden.
Why did we choose a no-dig garden? To make our lives easier, to allow life to thrive peacefully in the soil, and for plants to grow healthier.

Pigs
Pasture-raised indigenous Slovenian Krškopoljski pigs.
The Krškopoljski pig reaches a smaller height and weight, but its pork is famous for its nice appearance, intensity of color, marbling, and aroma.
The appeal of raising pigs outdoors, on grass and dirt, is obvious: pigs can be pigs. Watching them run around sunny pastures or forage for worms and roots seems so natural.
Contrary to popular belief, if grazing is well planned pigs do not cause damage, but rather stimulate more vigorous growth with their intervention.

Cattle
Pasture-raised indigenous Slvenian Cika cattle.
This breed of cattle is used to grazing on diverse alpine meadows. The relatively undemanding cows are known for their good fertility, strong maternal instinct and long lifespan. Due to the quality of their meat, they are also often called Slovenian Angus.
On our farm, the cows are intended for both milk production and calf breeding, as we have decided on an "Calf At Foot" approach in which the mother and calf are together, and the cow is still milked once a day. There is less milk to process this way, but the satisfaction and health of the herd is much greater.

Potato
Growing potatoes for the winter storage, without the use of pesticides, while respecting the crop rotation for rest and maintaining balance in the soil.
Potatoes do very well here, as they originate from the High Andes and thrive when average daily temperatures in July are close to 20°C.
Potatoes are the only crop on our farm that we still plow the land for. However, we are careful to return nutrients to the soil with proper crop rotation and provide it with the necessary rest to restore and reestablish balance.

Meadow orchard
meadow orchards are an important element of the traditional agricultural landscape and a habitat for many organisms.
Meadow orchards are becoming increasingly rare. Most fruit is now grown in large intensive plantations with shorter trees that are easier to harvest and prune, therefore meadow orchards have lost much of their productive function.
On our farm, we still maintain, nurture and rejuvenate the old meadow orchard that Mojca's great-grandfather established. The fruit is not produced in large quantities, it depends a lot on the weather conditions in the spring, but it is still enough for self-sufficiency and biodiversity of the farm.

Chickens
Pasture-raised laying hens, for those perfect eggs with a dark yellow yolk that doesn't brake easily.
Our chickens are currently a smaller part of the farm and are mainly intended for self-sufficiency.

Forest
For long walks, construction material and warmth during the long cold winter.
Forests cover more than half of the farm, so forestry activities are an important part of our rhythm. Taking care of the restoration and cleaning of the forest is the preparation of firewood for the heating season and wood for construction purposes on the farm.
A space of beautiful walking paths with open views and corners for the pleasures of foraging. It pampers us with everything - herbs, berries, mushrooms and chestnuts.
